  5. Top with the bread . Mix the milk and the egg and pour this over the top of the bread
  6. Bake in oven on middle setting for about an hour or until bread is golden brown
  7. Sprinkle over the wild garlic if yiu like .You can eat this hot or cold . Serve instead of plain boiled potatoes cut into tennis ball size. Serve with a salad or with meat if you like.

Or add several slices to a bowl of beef. Bring the red wine, vinegar and water to the boil. Add the spices and bay leaves and allow to cool. Place the beef, vegetables and parsley in a deep bowl and pour over the red-wine marinade. I made three batches of dumplings that night before they were all full.
